Curriculum

As a community of learners, we have adopted the Nevada Academic Content Standards for ELA and Mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards for Science and STEAM classes. Coral Academy of Science has a defined rigorous curriculum for our K-7 students.
Our ELA (English Language Arts) program for grades K-5 uses McGraw-Hill Wonders. Wonders is a comprehensive program structured on the Nevada Academic Standards for ELA. Wonders works through intentional instruction, inspiring content, and purposeful technology to prepare students for college and their future careers.
Through the Student Editions, students are exposed to a variety of genres, award-winning authors, cultures, and eras. Students are encouraged to collaborate with peers while analyzing text and fine-tuning their writing skills.
Our math curriculum is Reveal Math. It is for Kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The program incorporates both inquiry-focused and teacher-guided instructional strategies within each lesson.
Our middle school students utilize McGraw-Hill StudySync in their ELA classes. StudySync is a technology-focused curriculum. Students utilize classroom Chromebooks along with consumables as they work through the rigorous program.
StudySync contains a wealth of digital resources, multimedia components, and built-in tools and features for students to master the Middle School ELA Nevada Academic Content Standards. From the Twitter-type responses to movie trailer-style videos, everything is tailored for student relatability and engagement and reflects how students are already interacting with technology.
Our Math curriculum for grades K-5 is McGraw-Hill Everyday Mathematics. Everyday Math is a research-based mathematics curriculum developed at The University of Chicago School Mathematics Program. Lessons focus on new standards each day while reviewing previously taught lessons to promote mastery and coherence throughout the program.
Built-in differentiation easily incorporates readiness, extra practice, enrichment, and English language development into each lesson.
Our Middle School Students utilize McGraw Hill Glencoe Math in their mathematics classes. Glencoe Math is a middle school math program that stimulates critical thinking skills in students. The program is interactive and customizable so teachers can differentiate to meet the needs of each student in their classroom.
Glencoe Math is a rigorous curriculum with print and digital resources for students, teachers, and parents to use. Each lesson encourages high-order thinking and application of concepts ensuring students will be prepared for the Nevada SBAC.
Meeting our writing goals for all grade levels is achieved using Step Up to Writing®.
Step up to Writing features research-based, validated strategies and activities that help students proficiently write narrative, personal narrative, persuasive, and expository pieces; actively engage in reading materials for improved comprehension; and demonstrate competent study skills.
For science, we are using the Next Generation Science Standards. Next Generation Science Standards identifies the science all K-12 students should know. These new standards are based on the National Research Council’s A Framework for K-12 Science Education. The National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve have partnered to create standards through a collaborative state-led process. The standards are rich in content and practice and arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education.
